Sharjah: On March 12, 2025, the Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) expanded its global footprint with a prominent display at the London Book Fair, one of the world’s top platforms for rights negotiation, content sales, and distribution. A distinguished delegation of seven Emirati publishers, including two Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund (Onshur) graduates, showcased the UAE’s vibrant publishing sector, reinforcing the EPA’s commitment to supporting local publishers and increasing their international visibility.
The EPA’s participation is part of a broader strategy to empower Emirati publishers and position the UAE as a leading regional and global hub for the book and publishing industry. At the fair, Emirati publishers have the opportunity to form new partnerships, negotiate rights, secure translation agreements, and explore global publishing trends. Notable participants include Kalimat Group, which began in 2007 with a focus on children’s literature and has since expanded its offerings, and Dar AlFikr AlJadeed, which specializes in training manuals and resources aimed at business and management professionals.
Other key members of the delegation include Sidra Publishing and Distribution, dedicated to translating global literary works into Arabic, Thaqafa Publishing and Distribution, which enriches the Arab cultural scene with high-quality publications, and Ugarit Publishing, known for its focus on early childhood education. Additionally, the EPA pavilion features Onshur initiative winners—Shatha Nasser of Kairos Publishing, which translates classic literary masterpieces into Arabic, and Maryam Thani AlFalasi of Ghaim Publishing, which pioneers the translation of Asian literature, adding diverse narratives to Arabic literature.
Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, emphasized that the UAE’s active presence at international events like the London Book Fair reflects the impressive growth of the nation’s publishing sector. He explained that building global relationships opens new opportunities for collaboration, cultural exchange, and business expansion, which are crucial for ensuring the sustainability and advancement of the industry across the UAE and the wider region. Al Kous also highlighted the importance of nurturing emerging talent, noting that empowering young publishers—especially Onshur graduates—is central to creating a sustainable and dynamic publishing environment.
The EPA’s participation at the London Book Fair reaffirms its commitment to promoting Emirati creativity, supporting translation initiatives, and strengthening global cultural dialogue. By opening new horizons for local publishers, the association is not only driving business opportunities but also contributing significantly to the overall growth and international recognition of the UAE publishing sector.
